Then, apply a wood conditioner or pre-stain to help even out the wood so the stain absorbs evenly. Finally, stick to lighter stain colors with poplar to avoid dark splotches. Normally I like using the Fruitwood stain by Minwax for pine because it has a warmer tone, but it looked way too red/orange on the Douglas Fir. Here is the Fruitwood Stain on Pine.

Web14 jun. 2016 · I use "maple" for walnut gunstocks. The stain has nothing to do with maple anything as far as I'm concerned but that's what it's called. Around $12 plus $8 shipped to your door.
